About us

Theory of change

Commercial law firms and the law can play an essential role in implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Legal frameworks, products and services are critical to aligning finance flows consistent with net zero. The law can - and must - enable the transition to net zero.

Lawyers are also uniquely positioned to help their clients understand the evolving net zero landscape they are operating in, and recognise and act on climate-related risks and opportunities.

Our story

The Net Zero Lawyers Alliance (NZLA) was established ahead of COP26 to mobilise commercial law firms, lawyers and the law to accelerate the transition to net zero. Since then, the NZLA has been pivotal in positioning commercial law firms to help their clients reduce their emissions and build climate resilience, in turn supporting the global transition.

Today, our membership includes over 35 member firms, encompassing over 100,000 lawyers across more than 40 jurisdictions. The NZLA is committed to leveraging the collective expertise of its membership to provide net zero aligned legal services and align commercial law with net zero in a systematic way.
